If you homeschool your children, you may be in danger of the following exchange (or one similar to it):
The setting takes place in Dad and Mom’s bedroom while Daddy and Mommy were talking. In walks Selah who consequently turned 3 August 31… just two months ago….She climbs up onto the bed and proceeds.
Selah: “I don’t have my school.”
Mom: “Okay, we will get it for you in a minute.”
Selah: “My school is upstairs.”
Selah turns to Daddy, “Will you Please go get it for me?!”
Selah has the speech and vocabulary of someone much older than her age, for this reason her daddy laughed so hard after this little conversation and exclaimed how damaging home schooling our children has been!!! You see, she doesn’t spend her days with little people her own age speaking baby-talk, she spends everyday with her family which consists of all ages. This has given her an education even before she started with workbooks. I’m not saying that this is the only reason she has an advanced speech, I know every child grows and learns at different speeds, but I am saying that it has helped, and everyday we are blessed by her precocious little ways.
